An open letter to the fans of The Stolen Chair Theatre Company, especially those who have seen, read, or heard of our live silent film adaptation of The Man Who Laughs:
Stolen Chair would like to bring this "utterly tremendous" (Trav SD, TimeOut NY) "bona fide tour de force of theatre" (Martin Denton, NYtheatre.com) back to NYC stages this summer and we're asking for your help.
Please post a comment here if you would like to see this show return for another New York run. You can post a simple "Yes, please" or wax on and on about how the show has changed your life. If you missed the short workshop run last year, feel free to post if you are eager to see the show for the first time.
Thanks and Happy Holidays from all of the Chairs!

Well, I liked The Man Who Laughs so much that I published it. So maybe I'm partial. But, yes, Stolen Chair should definitely bring the show back so more people can see it. The show makes us rethink what we know about silent films (which is probably not all that much for most of us) and their unique and, I think, misunderstood place in early 20th century culture.
Yes, I would like The Man Who Laughs to return. It would be an opportunity to bring friends who didn't get to see it the first time. It would be especially nice if there was an afternoon performance.
I missed the show the first time around so showing it again would be fabulous! Please, please, please, please, with sugar on top?
The Stolen Chair Theatre Company has done a number of shows that I could watch again and again--and they just keep getting better! The Man Who Laughs is no exception. A remount of this production would be a real gift to the theatre-going community.
Bring it back!
It was so great the first time around, I want to see it again...and bring friends.
Cathy
you should absolutely bring back The Many Who Laughs...it was an excellent piece of theater and wonderful experience to see!!
Please bring back The Man Who Laughs!! It was incredible the first time and if I could, I would see it every year it was in NYC!! I want to bring a bunch of ppl with me to enjoy it, namely my husband.. Keep the same cast too, they were out of this world!!!
So it's not my fault I'm 363 miles out of town, missing The Man Who Laughs -- so it needs to come back pronto, especially after the astonishing productions I caught of Commedia dell'Artemisia and Stage Kiss. Theatre does not get any better than this and we need our SCTC fix all the time.
This was hands down the best show I saw in 2005. Stellar plot, stella performances, stellar directing, stellar designers... just 100% stellar!
the man who laughed made me cry. i'm due for another showing.
Please bring back "The Man Who Laughs." After seeing "Stage Kiss" earlier this year, I’m frankly anxious to see everything written and performed by The Stolen Chair Theatre Company and am looking forward to seeing "Kill Me Like You Mean It" next month. I wish I had discovered "The Man Who Laughs" during this talented group’s first run. Again, please remount it so those of us who missed it the first time may enjoy it as so many others have!
this is the only show where i have thought so deeply, laughed, cried, and wet myself. all ny theatre goers need to see this show!
I was vacationing in Kauai during TMWL and am just sick that I missed it. Please, please bring it back!
i saw this show during its short run in the fall of 2005 and encouraged all of my film students to go and see it. i would love to have it return and take all of my new classes to it as part of my curriculum. so much richness!
If The Man Who Laughs is half as extraordinary as Stolen Chair's current show Kill Me Like You Mean It, it is worth an extended run. I am this company's number one fan. Keep up the great work!
